My UnFavourite Things

Raindrops on windows; not-working pens
Spreadsheets I have to read over and over again
Boring brown jumpers and voices that grate
These are a few of the things that I hate

Organic oatcakes and dry plain ryvita
Trying so hard to avoid something sweeter
Work diaries that groan and trains that don’t wait
These are a few of the things that I hate

When the sun shines
And I feel fine
When I’m feeling great
I always forget my unfavorite things,
Until the next grumpy day when I hate...

Realising your tights have a long-running ladder
Being stuck in a meeting with a really full bladder
Silver white hair that appears on my head
These are the things that I really dread

Cream-coloured ponies should stay in their stables
Doorbells and sleigh bells should be quiet, not enabled
Grumpy cold Jaynes should be flown home on goose wings
So they can feel happy again focusing on favourite things!

With thanks to Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, The Sound of Music

Loved it, especially the penultimate stanza! At least you're not worrying yet about silver white hair that appears, um, elsewhere. . .

Plain ryvita, why bother, life's too short!

Very good! Now I have that tune in my head and it'll be a good couple of hours before it disappears.

Haha that's way better than the original!! Now you should make a video of you singing it and post it on You Tube!

Oh, i chuckled all the way through this. Very well done. I hate all those things too! (the meeting with the full bladder though, particularly struck home--hard to sound intelligent when you're... erm... distracted.)

Brilliant!!!!!!
I also hate brown jumpers but have never met another person who hated them like I do.

I spent a year touring with Sound of Music in my youth. We had a lot of alternate lyrics, but yours are now my favorite.

Oh no, Jayne! I hope Monday brings about a better week for you.

I hear you, though, especially on the laddered stockings. That always happens to me, without fail.

This post made me smile which is one of my favourite things! :-)

Thank you, everyone! So glad you liked it. And I did consider the option of singing it on youtube but decided there was more than likely a category called 'Youtube Videos of Deluded Singers' and somehow, oddly, that put me off.

Jayne said...

I think the best thing to do is to imagine me singing it, all in tune and sounding like Julie Andrews (but shorter, less inclined to wear curtains) and that way we are all satisfied.

Don't stay in the meeting with a full bladder,it's really bad for you.
There must be some protocol. It reminds me of when I had severe chest pain and was on way to doctor and my neighbour came up and started chatting and I stood there and didn;t walk away.how mad can you get?Are you the only woman in these meetings? You could shout "Let me out, before I burst,Or else forever you'll be cursed.I am a human organism,So let me out of this false prison. My body is a sacred thing,so let me do my sacred weeing"

Rose said...

he he, hope you're feeling better
