Weekend Wandering

The light returns on Candlemas.

The candle in my jamjar lantern pays its homage to the flares lit on the hillside. We gather in groups - adults drinking mulled wine as children run round and around. The lights split the darkness as we nod to the growing new year.

No weekend wander is complete without treasure. There is bought treasure, the stuff found on stalls and hidden on dusty shelves...

And there is found treasure, the finest treasure of them all. A horseshoe! I couldn't stop smiling. I felt like someone was giving me a sign to say that all will be okay.

It all sounds rather lovely and a lucky horseshoe too! Great stuff! I love the fact that you can find all sorts of treasures on stalls.
I bought a bag of marbles last week at a market, don't really know why, hehe.

That is a wonderful sign. An old horseshoe. Lucky you! I haven't been to a market in ages. I miss meandering around, just to see what is to see.

Is it you with the lovely auburn hair?

I love Candlemas. Even the word makes me happy inside. And so does finding treasures, whether they be in markets or picked up on a walk. A horsehoe, are you going to hang it up so that the luck does not fall out?

That sounds lovely.

I enjoy markets, although few of those in South Africa compare to the English ones I have seen.

There's nothing quite like getting out and about that quenches those parched places...

...and that silhouette on the hill behind the fire is perfect! You really live near some cool stuff...

Pen and paints – it was rather lovely. And I love marbles! Now you have me wondering where my marble collection is...

Ann – I felt very lucky indeed. And I love markets, craft fairs, antique stalls, stuff-you-can-rummage-through-in-local-halls – you could lose me for hours.

Mise – It is me... thank you! It appears to be the exact match for a rusty horseshoe.

Dolly – Yes, I will hang it up – at the moment it is propped up on my shelf with my lantern to remind me of a lovely weekend.

Misha – Waves to you in South Africa! Markets are great for rummaging around – although usually I am far too scared to rummage in case I break something!

Jbchicoine – The silhouette on the hill is a historic dovecote – but sadly I don’t live in this lovely place! But, in the grand scheme of things, England is a small place – this village was about an hour and a half from London.

Lovely Old Kitty – I was so happy to find this horseshoe – lucky me! I totally believe in horseshoes and four-leaf clovers and pots of gold at the end of a rainbow, especially after mulled wine. ;)

Carole – It was really sweet. I’ll look uot for this again next year, I think!

The Words Crafter – Aw thank you! And of course you can!

Kenda – I think festivals are what you make them – good friends, nice company, mulled wine – it all helps. :)

I feel like a bit of a stalker (I see a bit of Jayne! How wonderful!) but I definitely second Mise's comment about the lovely auburn hair. I remember you posting about not cutting it once? You were right - you should wear it long!

Beautiful pictures! Coming home with souvenirs is always fun - but it's even more fun when they have special stories behind them. Horseshoes are always a lucky find!

I love that first picture. Auspicious that you found a horseshoe. 2011 will be a good year.
