How do you take yours?

Breakfast that is? Today I am having porridge…. with a crumbled chocolate Twirl bar swirled around, and a sprinkling of sugar. My Saturday breakfast! Do you have treat breakfasts at the weekend?

Hm. Has this Saturday breakfast contributed to my recent dentist visit? Surely not…

After breakfast, during which my cats will plague me like they have never been fed and make me feel like Goldilocks haunted by two small furry bears, I will attempt the Grand Reconstruction of the House. An hour whirl of general tidying mayhem, in which things get flung in the washing machine, things get flung in their rightful places, and things get flung out of my way. After that hour, I will look around and decide I like the new look, regardless of what is hanging where, and make a cup of coffee.

I shall then begin redrafting chapter 21. Blimey… basically it is a nice chapter, but doesn’t move the story onwards, and I feel I may have to get rid of it altogether. The main thing I like about it is the insight to the characters - their interaction is very good in this chapter, and I want what happens in chapter 22 to feel all the more… final, because of the warmth built upon in 21. But really 21 doesn’t do a lot apart from the nice insight and the humour, so maybe I can distil what actually happens to a paragraph in chapter 20, and insert the character insights and humour to an earlier stage, and then perhaps get rid of chapter 21 as it stands at the moment. It is a big decision, and one I won’t take lightly, but I think it is probably the way forward. Wish me luck!

I must be in a funny mood.

The thing that immediately occurred to me was that then your book will go Ch19, CH20, CH22 which would be odd.

I know I am just raving.

Hoping your editing goes ..fabulous!

I had a salad of boiled eggplants with tomatoes. With some chilis :)

Thank you for stopping by my blog and dropping some awesome crap!

I'm too lazy to think of a different breakfast.

Have been doing a bit of flinging of my own and ditsing about with my blue fluffie.

Good luck with the editing!

I didn't know people ate porridge any more. Is it good?

Good luck with your edits!

Can you add some small twist to the chapter to make it necessary to the plot movement? Best wishes!

My favorite Saturday breakfast is a donut. Sounds like you have a productive day planned-- good idea to start with porridge.

Hi Jayne! I'm about to make myself porridge for breakfast! I'm thinking of going the vanilla and sugar route, though chocolate does tempt me...

Thanks so much for the follow! Best of luck of revisions!

Enjoy your weekend rearranging your pad :)

I had my favourite. Mushrooms, tomatoes and scrambled egg. And three cups of tea. Breakfast finished around 11.

Breakfast today was a sausage biscuit from McDonalds (husbands choice) and now we both feel gross. I wish I was reading your book, even without a chapter 21.

Usually I just fix biscuits and coffee for Saturday breakfast. This morning I got a little fancy with a Mexican style breakfast:
Tostadas (crispy fried corn tortillas) topped with bacon, melted cheddar cheese, a fried egg and hot salsa-- mmm delicious! On top of that bigger than normal Saturday breakfast we'll be going out to lunch to celebrate my sister-in-laws birthday, and then going to a special dinner tonight--a much bigger food Saturday than usual!

I personally love a bacon buttie. Now I'm craving one... happy weekend!

Best of luck with the chapter revision. I had my usual cereal this morning, but after reading your post I decided to head out later and have an all day vege full breakfast. It meant I didn't have to eat dinner, yum!

Yum! That breakfast sounds gorgeous! I'm a total pancakes on a sunday morning girl. And maple flavoured golden syrup, it's shocking sweet but it's the weekend! Good luck with your editing!x

Good luck! It's never easy to cut out a large chunk of words...

But your porridge sounds good - I like the idea of melted chocolate in it:)

On the breakfast: as an Englishwoman married to a Scotsman who takes his porridge with salt (ugh) just a sprinkling of sugar makes me feel guilty. But chocolate? Thus far breakfast has been the one meal not to include it, but I'm tempted now . .
On the editing: it feels painful but when you read the result I bet you'll realise it was the right thing to do (I know, easy for me to say!)

How do I take my porridge? I used to like Ready-Brek, wonder whether its still sold these days?

My favourite Saturday breakfast is always the pancakes my husband makes. They are incredible. But, I often feel guilty about the maple syrup, so I switched to sugar free, which between you and me, just isn't the same.

Ha ha... I have found someone who does 'cleaning' the house like I do... flinging things here and there and then deciding that its all done - whether it actually is or not!!!

Your post made me smile!!

As for Saturday breakfasts - its gotta be a kinda brunch - bacon and scrambled eggs with toast...mmmmmmm

Hi Al. Chapter 22 is like a glittering far-off star at the moment. I did chop chapter 21, which means it has all cascaded down, and now I feel like I have been on chapter 21 forever and a day.

~~~
Hi Old Kitty. Thank you! I am also so glad you think that porridge and chocolate is healthy! And actually my naughty secret is that my treat breakfast isn't just for the weekend... every day is treat day!
~~~

Hi I'm No Miss. Thank you - and I love the sound of your salad.

~~~
Hi Christine. Ditsing about with a blue fluffie sounds like my idea of tidying. Thank you for the good editing wishes!
Jayne said...
Hi Aubrie. Porridge rocks! Honestly - but only really with added chocolate. Try it - go for Ready Brek, or something with smooth oats first - none of those that look like gerbil mix.
~~~

Hi Joanne. Thanks for your advice. I did think about this, but in the end decided to go with the chop. Eek - hardest editing ever!

~~~
Hi KarenG. I have never been a massive fan of the donut (thankfully, since I seem to be a massive fan of everything else sugary and sweet!)
~~~

Hi Nicole. Hm - vanilla and sugar? That sounds a nice combination - will keep that in mind for days of no chocolate! Thank you for the good luck wishes.

Jayne said...

Hi Fran. The best breakfasts finish around 11. :)

~~~
Hi Jane. A sausage 'biscuit'? I don't know whether to be curious or not! Aw - and thank you so much for your lovely words about the book-to-be. Much appreciated.
~~~

Hi Lee. Biscuits and coffee? Looking at Jane's comment above, I am now wondering if biscuits over here in the UK mean something different! I love the sound of your Mexican style breakfast though - wow! Sounds like you had a nice Saturday. :)

~~~
Hi Talli. Mmm - white bread, bacon, tomato ketchup. Nothing beats it!
Jayne said...
Hi Happy Frog. I fear I am a bad influence, but I hope you enjoyed your full veggie breaky!
~~~

Hi Lilly. Pancakes! Oh I love them - but I would go for golden syrup. Is that sweeter than maple? My ideal pancake topping is lemon, sugar (so far, so normal), chocolate buttons and golden syrup. Forget the panacke, I'll just eat the topping mix. ;)

~~~
Hi Alex. Melted chocolate rocks porridge! Thank you for the good luck wishes.
~~~

Hi Janet. Porridge with salt! Oh my. I know that is proper, but I just couldn't do it. Breakfast was the one meal without chocolate as well, until I made the mistake of trying it... be warned. You will love it. As for the editing, thank you. I think it was the right thing to do (still wibbling!)

Jayne said...

Hi Wendy. Thank you, how lovely. Have already popped over!!

~~~
Hi Ee Leen. Yes, Ready-brek is still on the shelves - it is my porridge of choice! Thank you for the good luck wishes.
~~~

Hi Alex - thank you! Have already popped over. :)

Hi Pamela. Pancakes are so lovely. I think they are especially and infinitely lovelier when someone else makes them. But switching to sugar-free maple syrup... oh. Oh! Now there's a sacrifice. :)

~~~
Hi I'm No Miss. Thank you! Have already popped over. :)
~~~

Hi Barbara. Glad it made you smile. My cleaning is rather hit and miss, and usually hazardous! Brunch is usually the best kind of breakfasts. I think we should all take inspiration from Tolkien's hobbits and have two breakfasts anyway!
